Crisis Interventionist / Victim Advocate

Abilities Required:

  • Follow a professional code of ethics including confidentiality, individual rights, and professional and legal issues in providing services.

  • Understand and apply policies, rules and regulations and work independently on projects and routine tasks

  • Collect data, keep accurate and organized records, prioritize and ensure timely preparation of reports

  • Professionally represent Safe Place Inc services that are courteous and responsive.

  • Respond effectively during crisis situations to benefit victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.

  • Establish and maintain working relationships with various Law Enforcement Agencies, lawyers, and community agencies as well as maintain working knowledge of local law enforcement rules and policies as well as familiarity of the Family Code, Juvenile Laws, Code of Criminal Procedures, and Penal Code, pertaining to Domestic Violence.

  • Operate common office equipment such as computers, calculators, fax, and postage machines, photocopiers, and multi-line telephones.

Specific Duties:​

  1. Ensure each victim of Domestic Violence or Sexual Assaultis informed of legal rights, all available community services, crime victim's compensation and coordinate registration of these services.

  2. Performs intake duties, obtaining necessary assessment to determine eligibility for services and completion of forms and services specific to Safe Place, Inc.  

  3. Provides information regarding available community resources and its natural supports to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault  

  4. Assists clients in maximizing their abilities for self direction by empowering them to achieve the greatest possible degree of independence

  5. Coordinates the implementation and monitoring of the Individual Service Plan and progress toward goals using required reports for each adult resident and non-resident 

  6. Provide Legal Advocacy, Child Advocacy, Crisis Intervention and I&R.

  7. Responsible of conducting group and parenting classes

  8. Maintains case files and resource files according to established standards.

  9. Assist in presentations of Sexual Assault prevention programs.

  10. Assist with the initial training and in-service training of volunteers and staff

  11. Keep Safe Place, Inc.’s library for Community Education and brochures up-dated and translated.

  12. Accompany sexual assault victim for medical exam, criminal justice agencies, familiarizing victim with court settings and proceedings as needed. 

  13.  Provide on-call coverage of the Sexual Assault Hotline and after hours’ local intervention calls.

  14. Attend workshops, training, and seminars as funds are available 

  15. Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.

Physical Qualifications:

  1. Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds.

  1. Physically able to reach, climb, stand, kneel, crouch/stoop, squat, and the ability to climb stairs.

Qualifications Required

Bachelor’s degree or work equivalent.  Ability to relate to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault with empathy and support to make their own decisions.  Professional appearance and manner. Case Managers are preferred to be bi-lingual. Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Training conducted by Safe Place, Inc. must be completed within 90 days after date of hire.
